Spare impellers and rotors, made from the worn part
When the original drawing is missing, First In Service makes the replacement from the part itself. The worn impeller, rotor or shaft is 3D-scanned with our scanning partners, our engineers build the 3D model and drawings for your approval, and the new part is welded, stress-relieved, machined and dynamically balanced in Tallinn. You receive the 3D model and drawings with the part.
When a spare is reverse-engineered
- The original drawing is lost, or was never supplied with the machine.
- The original manufacturer no longer supplies the part, or quotes a lead time your shutdown cannot wait for.
- You want a second source for a critical spare.
- You want a 3D model and drawings, so the next spare can be ordered from documentation instead of from a worn part.
From worn part to balanced spare in six steps
- Send photos and operating dataPhotos of the part with a scale, nameplate data, speed, temperature and the medium it handles. An engineer confirms feasibility and the next steps.
- 3D scanningThe worn part is 3D-scanned with our scanning partners.
- 3D model and drawings for your approvalOur engineers build the 3D model and manufacturing drawings from the scan. Nothing is made until you approve them.
- ManufacturingWelding to EN ISO 3834-2, stress relieving (PWHT) at our Tallinn site with heat-treatment partners, and finish machining on the SC27 vertical lathe (up to Ø 2,700 mm) or the FERMAT WRF 130 boring mill.
- Balancing and inspectionDynamic balancing from 25 kg to 4,000 kg and up to Ø 4,000 mm; the smallest unbalance we can measure is 0.1 g. Dimensional inspection in-house; NDT (VT, PT, MT, UT, RT) by certified partners.
- Delivery with documentationThe part ships with its 3D model, drawings, balancing report and inspection documents.
What you receive with every rotating part
- 3D model and drawings (reverse-engineered parts)
- Balancing report: rotor mass, balancing speed, balance grade and residual unbalance per correction plane
- Dimensional inspection report
- Material certificates to EN 10204 3.1 (3.2 on request)
- NDT reports (VT, PT, MT, UT, RT) from certified partners
- Stress-relieving (PWHT) record and weld documentation to EN ISO 3834-2
What to send us
- Photos of the part with a scale
- Nameplate data, speed and operating temperature
- The medium or gas it handles
- The required balance grade, if known
- Quantity
- Your shutdown date, if the part is outage-critical
Questions buyers ask about spare impellers
Can First In Service make a spare impeller without the original drawing?
Yes. First In Service 3D-scans the worn impeller with its scanning partners, builds the 3D model and drawings, and then welds, stress-relieves, machines and balances the new impeller in Tallinn, up to Ø 4,000 mm and 4,000 kg.
What do I receive besides the part?
The 3D model and drawings, the balancing report, the dimensional inspection report, EN 10204 3.1 material certificates (3.2 on request), NDT reports and the stress-relieving record.
Which parts can be reverse-engineered?
Fan and blower impellers, rotors, shafts and hubs. Impellers up to Ø 4,000 mm; shafts up to 3,250 mm long and Ø 1,000 mm.
What sizes can First In Service balance?
Rotating parts from 25 kg to 4,000 kg and up to Ø 4,000 mm. The smallest unbalance First In Service can measure is 0.1 g.
How long does a reverse-engineered spare take?
It depends on part size, material availability and the inspection scope, so First In Service states the lead time in the firm quote. For an outage-critical spare, give the shutdown date in your enquiry.
Do you work under NDA?
Yes. Working under NDA is routine. Ask first and we will sign your NDA, or send ours, before you send any drawings.
Photos of the worn part are enough to start.
Send photos, nameplate data and operating conditions. An engineer replies within 1 working day.
