What each standard means for your order.

Procurement teams increasingly search by standard rather than by service, because the standard is what the audit checks. Here is what each of ours covers and what it changes in the documentation you receive.

EN 1090-2 (execution of steel structures): defines execution classes (EXC1–EXC4) for structural steelwork placed on the European market — welding requirements, tolerances, inspection and CE marking route
EN ISO 3834-2 (comprehensive welding quality requirements): the highest of the three EN 3834 levels — covers weld procedure qualification (WPS/WPQR), welder certification, equipment control and traceability
PED 2014/68/EU (Pressure Equipment Directive): governs vessels, tanks, piping and skids above 0.5 bar — the conformity assessment route follows from the equipment category
EN 10204 3.1 and 3.2 (material certificates): 3.1 is issued by the manufacturer’s own authorised inspection; 3.2 is countersigned by an independent inspector or notified body — specify which you need at RFQ stage
NORSOK M-501 (surface preparation and coating): the Norwegian offshore standard specifying coating systems, surface preparation grade, application conditions and per-layer film thickness records
ISO 9001 / ISO 14001: quality and environmental management systems — necessary, but on their own not evidence of welding competence
NDT (VT, PT, MT, UT): performed by certified partners — independent verification rather than self-inspection
